In a perfect world, no one would need a soup kitchen - we'd all be in the garden of Eden, then. In a world that's not perfect, we need God's perfect love in our hearts to help bring a piece of Eden everywhere in the world!
Meriden's soup kitchen has called upon the city's churches to help them stock their pantries generously with the basics of life for our families in need. Our part of the mission is simple, and important: canned soups, and dishwashing detergent.
Please bring these items, as much as you can, this Sunday or Ash Wednesday, so that the simple things in life will give our families hope. And, please, pray for our families, that we may all together find ways that will keep people from needing soup kitchens!
They say that it takes about 40 days to turn something we practice into a habit: why not make that habit a fresh approach to your faith?
The 40 weekdays and Saturdays of our Christian Lent season start on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, and end joyfully with the arrival of Easter Sunday, April 1st. During this time, we explore habits that we can develop to free up our minds, our hearts, our spirits, and our bodies for a new way of life based on faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ - the Savior of all Creation!
Is the future of your life and your soul worth 40 days? We think so! Join us for our regular worship services at 10AM on Sundays, and take advantage of special events and new groups we are forming to support people of all ages seeking to learn the ways of Christian discipleship:
While Pastor John Blossom was out with family on February 28th, we had the joy of hearing from retired Rev. Alden Barnes in the pulpit, a long-time resident of Meriden and a former shop-keeper right on our own Main Street! Rev. Barnes delivered a warm message on "Speaking with Authority," and gave our kids a chance to get a feel for what authority felt like in his children's message. Then, in his return on Feb. 4th, Pastor John reminded us how Jesus encourages us to go "Another Way" away from easy popularity to build a bigger family of God in Christ. Pastor John's message and prayers from this Sunday's service are in the podcast below; his sermon text is here and below the podcast, and Rev. Barnes' sermon text is here and below the podcast, along with additional recent worship photos. Have a blessed week seeking God's way together!
In Mark's gospel, everyone rushed to meet Jesus when he started to heal the sick and drive out people's inner demons. But who was ready to follow Jesus out from the crowds to places where he wasn't known? Come hear Pastor John Blossom's sermon "Another Way," share our joyful celebration of Holy Communion, and join us for warm fellowship and refreshments afterwards. See you on Sunday!
Discipleship is sometimes about a passion for the details that keep a church healthy and growing - and sometimes that means a passion for hardware! Our deep thanks for the many talents of SMT member Bob Moore, who has carefully selected and tested a new PC, amplifier and software that replaces our fading 1970's vintage carillon with worry-free and flexible capabilities - for a small fraction of an equivalent "old-tech" replacement unit! You can hear the results below in the YouTube video. It is scheduled to play at noon, 6PM, at school openings and closings, and before services on Sundays.
Bob's plumbing know-how has also given us a very reliable and durable new kitchen sink faucet (photo below video). We thank Bob for his steadfast love for our church, and his dedication to service!
