We had a great turnout for Trinity Sunday in the middle of Memorial Day weekend, With many newcomers and guests enjoying worship, and our remembrance of the men and women who gave their lives for peace and freedom. Pastor John Blossom's children's message showed us how the veterans who remember fallen heroes from centuries ago keep a live an extended family of love.

Pastor John's sermon "Second Childhood" reminded us how our Christian worship of God as the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - is a unique expression of how God's love comes to us on earth to invite us into God's extended family. Podcast of our announcements, sermon, and prayers below, along with sermon text below the podcast and here. Have a blessed Memorial Day - please remember those who have given their lives for us!

Volunteers Wanted for New Phone Prayer Ministry

Prayer is one of our most important and effective ministries. When people are in need, turning to us as a church to support them in prayer makes a big difference - and attracts people to the fellowship of Christ in our church.

We are installing a new phone system that will allow multiple people to support incoming prayers from our members and our community. When a person selects a phone menu option, the system will enable one or more people to be alerted to a prayer request. Responders do not have to speak directly to the person - they may call in to hear voicemail of the request, and pray in privacy. People who want to respond directly to the person may still have call filtering options set up.

Please contact Pastor John Blossom is you are interested in participating in this ministry or to learn more about it. No special equipment is required to participate - any normal phone will do, though, mobile phones will give participants more options. Thank you!

There was a great turnout at the Meriden Public Library on the evening of May 22nd for the "Religion and Science: At Odds, or Not?" panel and discussion, featuring as speakers our Pastor John Blossom, Rabbi Michael Kohn of Meriden's Temple B'nai Abrahamm and Chaplain Miyan Zahir Muhammad Mannan for Meriden's  Baitul Aman "House of Peace" Mosque. There was a lively Q&A session after the presentations, moderated by Doreen Bottone, Chaplain of Mid-State Medical Center and Chair of the Meriden Clergy Association.

This panel of local faith leaders, who were introduced to the guests by library Director Karen Roesler, has been invited to repeat the event for a local adult education class. Our thanks go to the Meriden Public Library,  Below are Pastor John's slides from his presentation. Our church stands for deep and fearless faith in our saving Lord, faith based on God's perfect love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18) - including the fear of open discussions of faith!

Our Day of Pentecost celebration joyfully welcomed the day when God's Holy Spirit set the followers of Jesus on fire in faith. They immediately went out and proclaimed their faith in God's love and living Word in Jesus to the world - and so can we! Our altarscape reminds us that our scripture-based faith habits bring alive God's love that set those fires of faith burning in the world through worship, prayer, small faith groups, and mission..

Our worship podcast with announcements, sermon, and prayers is below, and the text of Pastor John Blossom' s sermon "How to Start a Fire is here and below the podcast. Set your family, your friends, and the world on fire in faith!

When it rains, it pours, and when our church's heart is set on mission, we pour it on, no matter what! Our thanks for all of the blessed servants of God from our church and our community who participated in our annual community tag sale, vendor fair, and bake sale. Our hardy tag sale volunteers braved the elements to attract people, who streamed in through our beautiful church sanctuary to our fellowship hall to check out the baked goods, crafts, vendor items, and hearty lunches! In the entryway of our church mission volunteers explained how our fund raising supports our missions to Nicaragua and our own community. We were also showing off our new brochure and "We help God make house calls" signup cards for community ministries. Photos and viewable copy of our tri-fold brochure below. Praise God for this blessed event!

Jesus is not only risen, Jesus has ascended into heaven! Our Ascension Sunday worship was joyful, and Pastor John Blossom's sermon "In the Same Way" had real traffic signs pointing us to the one way of Jesus - following in Jesus' footsteps on this earth, through faith in God's loving grace. Worship podcast and scrollable sermon text is below, printable and downloadable text PDF is here. Remember - Pentecost Sunday is next week, wear something red if you can!

Our community celebration of Mother's Day kicked off Saturday morning in our fellowship hall, with a great pancake breakfast that attracted more than seventy people to our fellowship hall. The mothers attending the breakfast got special flowers, and everyone got a great meal, with lots of love baked in!

Our special thanks to City of Meriden's Traffic Superintendent Kevin Munson for the use of some of their traffic signs for our Ascension Sunday worshipscape! Kevin is a member of Southington Grace UMC, so a special shout-out to them also.

This Sunday is Ascension Sunday, when we celebrate Jesus rising into heaven 40 days after his resurrection. He spent those forty days teaching his disciples how to get to heaven - the same way that Jesus came to us. Our beautiful church will have very special decorations, and a message of hope from Pastor John Blossom that will help you to follow the one true way of God. Some for joy-filled worship and fellowship, leave with Christian hope. See you 10AM on Sunday!

Are faith and science at odds with one another, or not? What do Christianity, Judaism and Islam agree about on the relationship between faith and science? Where do they differ? What do YOU think? On Tuesday, May 22nd, a panel of speakers from our local faith communities will lead a community discussion on the relationship between faith and science.

This evening of engaging discussion starts at 6.00 with light refreshments and fellowship, then shifts at 6.30 into reflections on our topic from leaders of three different faiths in Meriden: Rabbi Michael Kohn of Meriden's Temple B'nai Abraham; Chaplain Miyan Zahir Muhammad Mannan for Meriden's  Baitul Aman "House of Peace" Mosque; and Pastor John Blossom of South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church.

At the end of these reflections, the panel of faith leaders will field questions from those in attendance, and shift by 7.30 into a closing half-hour interactive discussion of faith and science, moderated by the panel.

Please spread the word about this special event, and come and enjoy an evening when we can all join with our community, as outward signs of God's inner grace that seeks us all out through faith! A printable/downloadable poster for the event is below.
