On a rainy Sunday morning, we had a great turnout, and a warm service with great fellowship afterwards! Pastor John's sermon "Legacy" prepared us for a future of our church that rains down faith in abundance for the world. Then anointed us with oil to bless us all for our mission as God's church. Audio and slides on the podcast below, sermon in printable format here and below the podcast.
What will be our legacy as a church? Come to experience joy-filled worship, Pastor John's sermon "Legacy" based on the final days of Moses, Sunday School for children, and a Pastor's Circle discussion of our recent Church Conference. Also, we will have sign-ups for people wanting to add their loved ones who have passed on in the past year on All Saints' Sunday, November 5th. See you on Sunday!
We had a beautiful day of active devotion to the mission of our church on Saturday. Our United Methodist Women pulled together a great pie-making team to assemble more than five dozen apple pies to raise funds for ministries. Volunteers from several local United Methodist churches transformed Unity House's gardens into a beautiful landscape, while other volunteers prepared the home's upstairs kitchen for new flooring and finished room painting. Then on Sunday, Pastor John led us into the miracle of God's abundance - an abundance that makes everything we have a gift - in his sermon, "Re-Gifting," based on Matthew 22:15-22. Sermon and worship slides, audio and sermon text are below and here, along with great photos from Saturday's activities below.
What we give to God are gifts that we've received already from God! God sets the example for how we can avoid conflicts in giving ourselves to the world in faith. Celebrate our generous, amazing God this Sunday, with Pastor John's sermon "(Re)gifting," and a community prayer walk afterwards!
Handy with a hoe? Great with a scraper? This Saturday, October 21st, 9AM-12 Noon, there are some fix-up chores for our Unity House outreach home that can use some simple effort to make it a better place to live. We will spend time painting, removing the vinyl tile squares in the kitchen, weeding the flowerbeds that surround the house, and taking care of anything else that you'd like to do. Bring yourself, a pair of gloves, perhaps your favorite gardening tools, and your willingness to turn a bit of simple work into transformative ministry. See you there!
South Meriden Trinity UMC has always been passionate about music that calls us to faith. Since our bell tower was added in 1915 to our original 1872 church building, music has pealed from it to call people to God's grace and love. In recent years, though, our automated carillon system that plays bell music has been limited to manual operation. Bob Moore, a member of our Board of Trustees, was able to restore the carillon to full working order recently. Now, God's call to grace rings out again twice a day! What a joy to bring the music of faith to the world again.
Warm and heartfelt messages of faith from Hollis Hartford and Jeanne King here the highlights of our Laity Sunday celebration, who shared what a wonderful experience it was to come in to a church that was truly welcoming, and that - who knew! - the "Trolls" movie can remind us where to look for the love of God in our lives when we think that we're not hearing from God. Thank you both for your witness to faith, and thanks to Corky Collins for being our worship leader after rolling off an airplane from a long trip! Pastor John also shared his witness of moving from laity into his role as Pastor, a faith walk of a lifetime.
We had kids for Sunday school, great food afterwards, and we kicked off worship with Pastor John and Debbie Moore inviting people to be accountable to Christ's mission through our 2017-2018 "In order that..." stewardship campaign by offering steadfast faith, service, and financial support. We are so glad and proud to have you as a part of our church family, and we hope that you'll help us to grow the gift of faith for generations to come! Have a blessed week.
Faith invites us to grow in God's grace together into God's church on earth. We all need to be together in God's mind to do that! Come celebrate Laity Sunday with members of our church providing their witness to faith, along with a special message from Pastor John Blossom, and weather permitting a community prayer walk afterwards. See you on Sunday!
A rainy day didn't stop our new red doors from offering a warm greeting to those who braved the elements! Listen and look on the podcast, or download and read the sermon here or below the podcast. Have a blessed week, and join us for worship and our prayer walk next week!
With the world's troubles in the headlines, come to hear Pastor John's sermon, "A Common Evil," to reflect on how Christian hope responds to these evils. There will be hope, love, and the compassion of Christ encouraging us forward. See you then!AC
