When South Meriden Trinity UMC puts on a show, it's more than a play - it's a community coming together to celebrate being together in faith! People of all generations packed our church to see and participate in our annual Christmas Pageant as the message for our morning Christmas Eve service, in a production of "Let's Keep God's Love in Christmas." The story tells is about...a Christmas pageant that no one wants to be in! Everyone re-discovers how important the love that Christ brings to us in Christmas is to us together.
Special thanks go out to Daryl Fitzgibbons, who not only directed the play, but also brought together people who are a part of our extended church family into the production - including Gayle Wilkinson, who offered us a surprise - her lovely liturgical dance as a part of the play, and a baby playing Jesus! All of the children, adults, and family members rejoiced with carols, prayers of praise, and a wonderful meal afterwards. LOTS of photos in the slideshow below!
The day was finished of with a beautiful candlelight service at 7PM, where we told the story of Jesus' coming from the beginning of creation to Jesus' birth, finishing off with a candlelight singing of "Silent Night. Pastor John's sermon "Once Upon a Time" is in the worship podcast below (sorry for the audio problems), and the sermon text is here and below the podcast. Have a blessed Christmas celebration - the best real story in the world!
Joy to the world! Come celebrate Christ's birth this Christmas Eve in our beautiful church sanctuary, and let God create joy-filled memories that will make this a very special Christmas in your heart.
At 10AM this Sunday, December 24th, our worship service will be the setting for our annual Christmas Pageant, when the whole church comes together to tell the story of how we need to put God's love into Christmas. It's a very special story that will make you appreciate what our faith brings to this most important celebration.
Then at 7PM, celebrate Christmas with our candlelight carol service, when heart-warming favorite carols will help us all to appreciate the holiness of Christ's birth in human history, and in our lives today. Experience a traditional Christmas Eve that will bring Christ into your life like a newborn child.
On Monday, Christmas Day, weather permitting, the church will be open at 9AM for a very informal prayer service and singalong, for those who want to start their Christmas celebration on a note of joy and gratitude. Please check our signboard if weather becomes a factor.
Have a blessed, merry, and joy-filled Christmas, knowing that God loves you, our church loves you, and that all the world can be transformed by God's amazing love in Christ, one person at a time. All things are possible! Amen!
ur church as a alive with celebration, fellowship and mission on Sunday, as we redicovered Christian joy during our worship, singing our New Testament lesson, while our children and youths had fun assembling gingerbread houses during Sunday school. Afterwards, we had a warm lunch to prepare us for caroling at the homes of our church friends who are at home or in rehab. At one of our stops at the Masonicare center, we sang for more than twenty-five neighbors who had been invited, and Pastor John slipped in a short sermon message about Christian joy.
During the caroling, a mission team led by Mary Barker and Linda Kirk, with our secretary Dawn Pelletier participating, put together a very warm Christmas celebration for more than thirty men at Meriden's ShelterNow shelter. They received a very hearty meal including snacks, salads, pulled pork, mac and cheese, Puerto Rican rice, and lots of desserts, as well as Christmas gifts, health kits, and a special "door prize" of bonus gifts! The men were very grateful, and filled with the joy of being cared for by our church family who makes this mission their "real" Christmas gift to themselves and to the world!

Need joy? Come celebrate it!
You can see from our photos below that we're getting ready for a fantastic Christmas celebration! So far this Advent we've been celebrating the gift of Christian hope and love; this Sunday, we add to our spiritual gifts of preparation the gift of Christian joy, joy that liberates us to accept the miracles that God is preparing for us already in our lives. It's a "homecoming" of our hearts to Jesus - the title of Pastor John Blossom's sermon this Sunday.
After worship, please join us for caroling as we visit the homes of our church family to cheer the lives of those who are not able to come to worship due to illness and injuries. We'll depart about noon, and have a simple meal together beforehand. Come celebrate the joy of God's coming into our lives!
What does it take to start living in the good news of Jesus again? It takes a willingness to prepare a way for out Lord in our hearts, so that we may prepare God's way in the world. This Sunday, we recommitted ourselves to our baptism vows, as Pastor John Blossom's sermon "The Straight Story" invited us to return to the waters of the Jordan, where Mark's gospel starts the good news of Jesus' coming. Our podcast of our announcements, prayers and the sermon is in the podcast below, and text for Pastor John's sermon is here and below the podcast.
Get "The Straight Story" from Pastor John Blossom's sermon this Sunday at 10AM, as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ! As John the Baptist asked us to "prepare the way for the Lord," we will remember our baptism covenant together to prepare our hearts for Christmas, and rejoice with songs of praise for the God who loves us so much. See you then!
We are entering the season of Advent joy - and we are bringing this joy to some of our church family who need it most! Come join us for a journey to these families with song and prayers in our hearts on Sunday, December 17th after worship and fellowship with a special meal, followed by departing in our cars (carpooling suggested) at 12.15. We expect to visit five church families who will rejoice in the presence of Christian hope! Please contact Debbie Moore for details.
Nearly a thousand people came through our church on Saturday for Christmas in the Village, seeking warmth, refreshments, our beautiful Advent displays, prayers, and amazed by the light of faith that we bring. We were humbled by the many people praying in our church - and in front of our church! We are surrounded by people who need and are hungry for the power of faith transforming their lives. See the video photo album video above and on YouTube, Our first Sunday of Advent worship celebrated Christian hope, with beautiful music, altar displays, and Advent candle lightings. Worship & sermon podcast are below, and sermon text from Pastor John's message "Even Better" is here and below the podcast.
Whatever our doubts or regrets about the past year, Advent reminds us that God is always willing to reshape us - and the world - into the Christ-like image of God! Pastor John Blossom's message "Even Better" will focus on how we can use the Advent season to reconsider how to be the clay in our loving God's hands to be shaped into even better ways of loving God. Join us for warm and joy-filled worship and fellowship at 10AM this Sunday, as we begin to experience God's Advent story together!
